chromium: the facts
As with any weight loss supplement, there is information "for-and-against" the ingredients used and the claims made by weight loss supplement manufacturers. Chromium, or Chromium Picolinate, is one nutritional supplement surrounded by controversy. There are many stating chromium "burns fat and increases lean muscle mass." There is some evidentce supporting this statement. However, there is more information suggesting chromium is most helpful in decreasing "cravings," especially for carbohydrates, and in suppressing the appetite. Most in the supplement industry feel it is important for many reasons.
The primary reason for discussion of chromium, in weight loss and nutrition, is the aging body. As people age, the body has a harder time absorbing chromium through foods. Supplements may help increase the levels of chromium in the body. Additionally, the benefits of chromium's appetite suppression can help immensely in weight loss.
