what is glucosamine?

Other names: glucosamine sulfate, glucosamine sulphate, glucosamine hydrochloride, N-acetyl glucosamine, chitosamine. Glucosamine is a compound found naturally in the body, made from glucose and the amino acid glutamine. Glucosamine is needed to produce glycosaminoglycan, a molecule used in the formation and repair of cartilage and other body tissues. Production of glucosamine slows with age.

what is chondroitin?

Glucosamine is often combined with chondroitin sulfate, a molecule naturally present in cartilage. Chondroitin gives cartilage elasticity and is believed to prevent the destruction of cartilage by enzymes. Glucosamine is sometimes combined with methylsulfonylmethane in nutritional supplements.

what will the glucosamine patch do for me?

Glucosamine and chondroitin have become to of the most sought after remedies for arthritis and osteoarthritis among the population.  In all honesty, there are mixed results from laboratory studies studying different aspects of the remedy.  Some of the studies do support the effects of the compounds on arthritis and osteoarthritis in the knees, for instance.  In the most prominent study, those patients using glucosamine, versus a placebo, were found to have reductions in pain and inflammation of joints with arthritis.  And, those in the study showed a slower progression in the deterioration between joints.  So, like all other treatments, the glucosamine and chondroitin will help some people and may not benefit others.  It does appear the more severe the arthritic pain; the better the results from using glucosamine and chondroitin.

The Glucosamine transdermal patch, from Products by Pam, will offer you the benefits of glucosamine and chondroitin without taking "another pill."  In fact, some of our customers have placed the patch on specific body parts to help reduce the pain associated with arthritis.  These customers have told us of improvement in arthritis in those areas.  At the same time, the Glucosamine Patch doesn't have to be directly applied to a problem area.  Placing the patch on your arm or lower back will give you a steady "flow" of glucosamine and chondroitin throughout the day.

Warning:  People allergic to shellfish cannot use glucosamine or products conataining glucosamine.  Glucosamine will cause an allergic reaction in those allergic to shellfish.
